Charisma SmallNet is the little sister of Charisma Diamond. A 12 MB small network is used. In the starting position, the engine as AVX2 version on 20 threads, calculates that much faster:

Charisma SmallNet: 26000 kns after 15s
Stockfish dev: 18000 kns after 15s

In my EN-Test 2022, the engine managed at 60s, great 110 solutions. In the ranking it looks like this:

1) Charisma, Result: 116 out of 120 = 96.6%. Charisma 64-Bit.txt (ZIP)
2) Crystal 5 KWK, Result: 113 out of 120 = 94.1%. Crystal 5 KWK.txt (ZIP)
3-4) Charisma SmallNet (12 MB net), Result: 110 out of 120 = 91.6%. CharismaSmallNet.txt (ZIP)
3-4) Corchess 3 201122, Result: 110 out of 120 = 91.6%. Corchess 3 201122.txt (ZIP)
5) Blue Marlin 15.4, Result: 107 out of 120 = 89.1%. Blue Marlin 15.4.txt (ZIP)
6-8) Dark Sister 1.9a, Result: 106 out of 120 = 88.3%. Dark Sister 1.9a.txt (ZIP)
6-8) Kayra 1.7, Result: 106 out of 120 = 88.3%. Kayra 1.7.txt (ZIP)
6-8) ProteusSF-Piranha 220904, Result: 106 out of 120 = 88.3%. ProteusSF-Piranha 220904.txt (ZIP)
9-10) Stockfish dev 231122, Result: 105 out of 120 = 87.5%. Stockfish dev 231122.txt (ZIP)
9-10) Shashchess 25.3 GoldDi, Result: 105 out of 120 = 87.5%. ShashChess 25.3GoldDigger.txt (ZIP)

I would like to point out, that the pure engine of Charisma SmallNet is not identical to Charisma Diamond. It's not just the network that's different.

I optimized the engine for practical play on servers. So far I haven't lost a single game on PlayChess.com with the small net! The strength of the small network is the middlegame with tactics. Here the small net is stronger than Stockfish dev. and is faster! Benefits for Stockfish dev. there are special complex positions in the endgame. Possibly also when playing with small books, and complex positions have to be solved at the beginning of the game. In practice, I play with normal theory and with books that already contain the known theory. The actual game usually begins in the middlegame. And here the small fast net cannot be defeated!

The engine contains all Brainlearn features. Thank you Andrea Manzo!

The network is EMBEDDED and the engine does not need a special folder with the network. I wish everyone a lot of fun testing the engine.

Charisma Saphir released:
https://solistachess.jimdosite.com/solista-news/
Have fun testing. :-)

Difference between Stockfish dev and Charisma Saphir:

Image

Just because Stockfish is faster doesn't make it better. Above a certain search depth, the faster engine will not find better moves. We see that on the server every day! An engine with only 4 cores is deep enough to be able to stand up to 64 cores. Thanks be NNUE! It is more important not to miss anything than to calculate too deeply.

In my EN test 2022, Charisma Saphir manages 115 solutions (Stockfish dev 110).

26 Jan 2023: Charisma Light 1.0 released!

Charisma light 1.0 is a super powerful UCI engine based on Stockfish dev. Charisma Light has an active playing style, and is excellent for analysis, as well as blitz and rapid chess. I have renounced all features to keep a pure search code. Learning files are useless in my opinion when playing with good opening books. A learning file that was created with older engine versions also prevents the development of a newer and more modern engine version! In addition, the learning file throttles the speed of the engine. I always use GUI opening books, so I don't need polyglot book support. However, MinimumThinkingTime is important on online servers when playing without bonus time. I recommend a value of 100 (100ms). In my 2022 EN test, the engine scored 115 out of 120 points. Download textfile on my homepage.

02 Feb 2023: Charisma Light 2:
Charisma Light 2 is a powerful UCI engine, based on Stockfish dev. Charisma Light 2 has an active playing style and is excellent for analysis, blitz and rapid chess. Because of the efficient and tactically strong search, it is even possible to play on servers like PlayChess with only one core (picture). In my test on PlayChess, I played 307 games in a row with only one core (2400 kns) and I didn't lose a single game. One of my opening books was used. All these games on my homepage for download. Learning files are not necessary! However, I have implemented MinimumThinkingTime, I recommend setting a value of 100 (100ms) for games on the server. Offline 0.

10 Feb 2023: Charisma Blitz
Charisma Blitz is a powerful UCI engine, based on Stockfish dev. Charisma Blitz has an active playing style and is excellent for analysis, blitz and rapid chess. Charisma Blitz has a fast yet accurate search. On Feb 8th, 2023 in the blitz tournament on PlayChess, Monster PC (850000 kns) was defeated --> game:

Learning files are not necessary! However, I have implemented MinimumThinkingTime, I recommend setting a value of 100 (100ms) for games on the server. I plan to update the engine once a month (with latest Stockfish patches).

My results showed it was slightly more tactical and about 2 Elo weaker than the net you are using now. Tactical results were good, but not good enough so I stayed with the older net in BM. Int scale for it was: 1075 + 95/5120. If you like to experiments you may try it.
Eduard, sorry for hijacking your thread, but the quoted post got my attention.

dorsz, do you experiment with opening/middlegame/endgame test suites to evaluate tactical strength - as well as using fixed depth self play games? Something like Kai Laskos test sets?

Crystallite is still one of my favorite engines for chess study.

I experiment with my own test suites and some chosen positions I want engine to choose the particular move, usually a sacrifice, even if other good move is possible.
I never do tests with fixed depth as it often changes with different engine version. I use time.
Unfortunately I can't find any improvements for Crystallite. Sometimes I do some experiments with it, but whatever I change it gets worse.

Thanks for your reply.

I am trying to evaluate the tactical abilities of specific nets in comparison with my own (trained without Leela binpack data) using a specific Phaedra binary.

I have a customized EloStat104 cbh that is used to determine tactical abilities. Although not the Elo leader in the database anymore, Crystallite still holds several best results (fastest solution time) in my rather large database. When it finds the solution, Crystallite finds it very quickly most of the time. Still one of my favorites. . .

I have also been doing my own experiments focusing on nn-793ebdeaf2e5.nnue.
